What to wear for flag football: jersey, shorts and base layers

Why flag football shorts have no pockets

In flag football, pulling the flag is the tackle. A pocket, a belt loop or a raised seam can hold a flag that should come away clean, and a flag that will not release turns a close play into an argument with the referee. That is why most league rulebooks ban pockets on game shorts and ask for jerseys to be tucked in or cut to finish above the belt.

5v5 vs 7v7 flag football uniforms

5v5 is the usual youth and rec format: a short field, quick passes and a lot of flag pulling. The 5v5 jersey is cut close through the body with a short hem. 7v7 is mostly an off-season passing game played by tackle football players, and most of them wear compression underneath, so our 7v7 jerseys run slightly longer and looser and pair with 7v7 shorts that have a longer leg.

One league can span both formats and every age group. Youth sizes are graded on their own pattern from 5U, adult sizes on another, and a women's block covers adult women's divisions. Check fit against the jersey size chart, and when a league runs several divisions, order samples in the key sizes so each age group can try the fit before you confirm the size breakdown.

Girls and youth flag football uniforms

Girls flag football programs in schools and leagues buy full uniforms every season, and many divisions ask for a fitted cut, a sleeveless jersey or tights under the short. Youth flag football uniforms are the volume side: whole age divisions ordered at once, numbered to the roster and packed as flag football uniform sets, so your customer hands each player a bag instead of sorting a carton.

For youth leagues, dye sublimation is the standard. The dye goes into the polyester, so numbers, sponsor marks and gradients add no weight and cannot crack or peel after a season of washing.
